December Milder and Sunnier

Armagh Observatory reports that December was slightly milder and sunnier than average.

The mean monthly temperature was 6.3 degrees Celsius (43.3 degrees Fahrenheit), which is a little over one degree Celsius above average. The maximum temperature was 14.4 degrees C on the 4th and the lowest air temperature was -4.8 C on 22nd. There were seventeen nights with grass frost and four with air frost.

The number of hours of sunshine was 45.1, that is, slightly over 20% more than the monthly average. Rainfall amounted to 80.8 mm (3.18 inches), that is, much the same as average. The wettest day was the 6th when 14.6 mm fell.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
