Subject: MARS WATCH, Real money quiz
Hi all,
1. Don't forget the IAA public MARS WATCH at the lower car park (seaward
side of main road), Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, Cultra, near Holywood, Co
Down, on Sat 29 October, from 8.30 p.m., if it's clear. Bring your scope if you
have one, and warm clothes, and a digital camera, and a hot flask if you
want.
2. And sharpen up your astro-brains for the IAA's one-and-only,
groundbreaking (skybreaking?), original (well, almost), unmissable real money quiz, on
Wednesday 2 November, 7.30 p.m., Stranmillis College, Belfast. "Who wants to be
an Astronomical Centenaire?" (or 'Hundredaire', but I don't like that
one....) Yes, you really could win up to £100 in real money! Based on the
well-known TV quiz programme presented by Chris T (or Gaybo!), questions will be
astronomical in content - and in level of difficulty, for the later ones at least!
But you'll have 3 similar lifelines, so you might well win a reasonable
sum.....
Just divide each of the amounts on the TV programme by 10,000 and you'll
get the equivalent amount in our quiz (OK, so we're not as rich as the TV
company, but it won't cost you even a telephone call to enter!). You'll also
have the equivalent 'safe' winning amounts, so no contestant should go away
empty-handed!
So come along, and you'll have an equal chance of getting selected with
everyone else. I hope to have between 3 & 6 contestants in the 'hot seat'
during the evening. And if you don't get picked, you can still participate in
'ask the audience', or 'phone a friend'. Not to mention watching some poor
contestant struggle with questions to which you know the answer! Or at least, you
think you do.....
Clear Skies,
Terry Moseley
