Subject: Possible aurora, early Perseids, WWT BBQ
Hi all,
1. AURORA? A lot of activity which had been occurring on the far side of the
Sun has now been carried round by the Sun's rotation towards the near side.
No flares or CME's have come directly at us yet, but the highly active surface
means that it's worth keeping a look out for possible aurorae as soon as the
sky gets pretty dark.
2. The first few members of the annual Perseid meteor shower may now be seen
emanating from near the border between Perseus and Cassiopeia, especially
late in the night. The level of activity will slowly increase until maximum on
August 12 - more details on that soon.
3. Don't forget the invitation from the folks at WWT, Castle Espie, near
Comber, Co Down, to their annual BBQ on Friday 29 July, starting at 7.30 p.m.
They supply the cooking & the picnic tables, you bring everything else. If it's
clear, bring your telescope or binocs & we'll have some observing.
