Subject: 3 Lectures, Eclipse Trip Latest
Hi all,
Reminders about three forthcoming lectures:
1. Irish Astronomical Association: Public Lecture "Astronomical Travels" by
Val & Andrew White (British Astronomical Association). 7.30 p.m., Wednesday 2
March. Lecture Room 5, Stranmillis College, Stranmillis Road, Belfast.
Admission free, including light refreshments. All are welcome.
Val & Andrew are well-known in astronomical circles & seem to have been
everywhere that there's anything astronomical worth seeing, including quite a
few eclipses! Val is currently a member of the Council of the BAA.
2. Dr Paul Butler (a world authority on, & the discoverer of many, extra
solar planets) will be giving a talk: "From Extra Solar Planets to
Extraterrestrials" at 7.00pm on Thursday 3 March in the Larmour Lecture Theatre, Physics
Building, QUB. (free parking in QUB grounds after 5.30pm, enter via University Sq
uare). QUB event, in association with IAA. Admission free.
3. EAAS Lecture, Thompson Primary School, Ballyrobert, Co Antrim, Monday 7
March, 8 p.m. "Solar Mysteries Revealed" by Miss Miruna Popescu (Armagh
Observatory).
4. Stuffed Turkey! - Turkey is going to be full of Irish people in March
2006! We currently have 113 people booking on the IFAS eclipse trip to Antalya to
see the Total Eclipse of the Sun on 29 March 2006. And the number seems to
grow daily! We even have the Astronomer Royal for Scotland booked with us! If you
want to go & haven't yet sent your deposit of 100 pounds or 150 euro, made out to "IFAS
ECLIPSE TRIP ACCOUNT" to David Bell, Bansha, Askeaton, Co Limerick, do it
NOW! We may not get all the places we are requesting, & if not it will be 'first
come, first served'!
Clear skies,
Terry Moseley
