Subject: Brilliant Connaught Star Party, ISS Evening Passes

Hi all,

I'm just back from the inaugural Connaught Star Party, superbly hosted by the
Galway Astronomy Club.
Everyone there thoroughly enjoyed it, and if you missed it, don't make the
same mistake again next year!
It was a very full day, with 4 really excellent lectures; the organisation
was first-class, and the venue was the best I have seen for such an event:
the really lovely 4* Westwood Hotel in Galway, with a lovely big room, and
plenty of parking. After the talks, Prof Mike Redfern took us to the NUIG
observatory, and showed us how they are using the equipment on-site to teach students
the basics of real hands-on observing.
There were about 120 attending, which is absolutely brilliant for a first
event, and when you consider that it was in January, it's truly remarkable.
They have already decided to make it an annual event, and I hope that next
year they can stretch it to two days instead of one.
So, Very Well Done! to Chairman Martin Quirke and the rest of the
committee, Secretary: Andrea Kwateng, Treasurer: Padraic Noone, Speaker Organiser:
Marcus Woerner, M/C: Mike Conneely, & Sean Hester, Alex Howe, Ronan Newman &
Albert Reilly (I think - hope I've got that right: apologies if not!).

The ISS is currently making another series of evening passes over Ireland:

Clear Skies,

Terry Moseley
