Subject: NLCs & big Sunspot group.
Hi all,
I saw a weak display of NLCs last night (28/29 June) at about 01.15 UT, but
nothing spectacular. If I hadn't been looking for them, I wouldn't have noticed
them.
But Ronan Newman in Galway has been luckier: he saw "a small display in the
region around Capella last Thursday morning (25/26) just after 0020, also much
larger display visible last Sunday morning (21/22) at 0230, - had to wait for
cloud to clear."
It promises to be clear tonight, in Glengormley at least (after a fabulous
sunny day!), so have a look to see if the activity continues, or has
intensified.
Still, overall I would say that this year activity has been down on last
year.
The big spot group AR 397, formerly AR 375 on its previous passage, is coming
nicely round the limb again. Peter Paice (Belfast) has got some good images
showing the complexity of the group.
Clear Skies,
Terry Moseley
